Back in the 1960’s, Mashpee Commons was known as the New Seabury Shopping Center that consisted of a few retailers including a food market, a bank, a pharmacy, a home and garden shop and a small cinema.
Forward to 1986, the property was developed into a mixed-use commercial and residential community. The name was officially changed to Mashpee Commons. As businesses and living spaces were added, so were internal streets and communal recreational spaces. The expansion continued with the addition of multi-floor buildings that varied in shape and size to add to the unique landscape, with the concept of accommodating retailers at the street level and residences on the second and third floors.
Throughout the years, Mashpee Commons has continued to grow and become one of the top year-round destinations on Cape Cod. The Commons has evolved with the changing needs of the local community to offer a variety of retailers and attractions. The Commons is proud to work with Cape-owned businesses, with over 70% of its retailers being locally owned and operated.
