Find your new best friend during The Black Dog’s Doggie Adoption Event, happening on September 15th

Finding homes for rescue dogs is a mission close The Black Dog’s hearts (their namesake Black Dog was a rescue pup herself!) which is why every year they partner with local non-profits to spend a day introducing shelter dogs to their forever homes. Join them for their next Doggie Adoption event on Saturday, September 15th, between 12-4pm.

The Black Dog is partnering with Survivor Tails Animal Rescue (STAR) on this year’s event. STAR is a non-profit, all-volunteer organization that exists to rescue, re-home, and rehabilitate homeless, unwanted, abused, and neglected dogs and cats and place them in loving and responsible forever homes. Survivor Tails will have an info table where volunteers will gladly answer any questions and provide information about adopting, fostering and volunteering. They will even have guest appearances from some adoptable pups!

If you are not quite ready to commit to adoption but would still like to support this wonderful resource for animals, you can help by simply picking up your new Black Dog gear on Saturday (perfect time to grab that sweatshirt you’ve been eyeing). Throughout the day, 20% of the store’s sales will be donated to STAR.

For more info, give the The Black Dog Mashpee team a ring at 508-681-8952.

Seaside Le Mans Returns to Mashpee Commons for 18th Annual Race for the Cape Cod Community

This September, the Davenport Companies will once again transform a portion of Mashpee Commons into a race-track, for the 18th Annual Seaside Le Mans! Join us on Saturday, September 8th to watch as local business-owners and community members compete in the annual four-hour Formula One go-kart race to benefit the Cape Cod community. Opening remarks will kick off at 11:30am with Grand Marshall Wendy Northcross, Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce CEO. The patriotic opening ceremony will also feature an honor guard, a flyover, and live music from the Cape Conservatory Jazz Band.

During this free, family-friendly event, dozens of local companies will be racing through the streets of Mashpee Commons on a ¼ mile track, complete with a foot-bridge (on Market Street, near the fountain & Trevi Cafe) to the infield. You are welcome to view the race from outside the track or from the center infield. There will also be free children’s activities, food vendors, merchandise tents and music throughout the day.

Live race results will be available throughout the day on the “Race Monitor” app (a free app available on Apple and Android devices), allowing you to view the leaderboard, check on lap times and track live results from anywhere.

New this year, you’re invited to volunteer at the trackside “Bike Build” where 240 children’s bikes will be assembled, representing the 240 minutes of the race, then donated to 10 local children’s organizations. The Bike Build will be taking place at Mashpee Commons Bandstand (near MOCEAN and iCape).

Returning this year will be a medical tent hosted by Cape Cod Healthcare, the official medical care provider for the race, as well as the Blood Mobile supporting the Cape Cod Healthcare Blood Center.

While you are here, be sure to visit some of the new local businesses in the neighborhood, including Fox + Kit Children’s Boutique, Molly’s Apothecary, One 21 Boutique, Paisley Boutique, Sea Salt Luxury Spa, Southern Tide, and the Mashpee School Store.

All proceeds raised during the event support the Cape Cod Community. With kart sponsorships, matching funds and the Drivers Cup Fundraising Challenge, this year’s race will raise $600,000, bringing the funds raised to more than $6.5 million over the last 18 years! Beneficiaries of the race this year are the Alzheimer’s Family Support Center of Cape Cod, Cape Cod Healthcare, Cape Cod Children’s Place, Cape Cod Theatre Company Home of the Harwich Jr. Theatre, and Dream Day on Cape Cod. The Davenport Companies work in partnership with The Cape Cod Foundation to manage the sponsorship donations and with X1 Boston to manage the race.

In the words of event founder DeWitt Davenport, President of The Davenport Companies, “From the beginning, the whole focus of this event has been on bringing the community together to support Cape Cod.”
