“Fiber Frenzy” Exhibit at Woodruff’s Art Center

Creativity takes on many forms in Woodruff’s Art Center’s fascinating new show entitled “Fiber Frenzy.” This group exhibit of fiber art and assemblages highlights a unique collection of textural art expressed through cloth, threads, wools, linens and textiles of all sorts. With a varied range of distinct artistic styles as produced by the exhibit’s exceptional group of ten distinct local artists, the selection of works represented range from abstract and stylized to near-photorealistic art. One artist uses colorful pieces of cut paper to create stunning mosaics, another weaves on a Japanese Saori loom, several sculpt using a variety of ingenious fibers.

Featuring works by Madeline Arnault, Carol Fitzsimons, Ro Morrissey, Christine Anderson, Carol Flax, Toni Newhall, Elaine Skoler, Jane Parhiala, Susannah Wheelwright, and Lisa Horton.

This show will be on display at the Woodruff’s Art Center from July 14th – August 21st with an opportunity to meet the artists during the exhibition’s opening reception on July 14th from 5:30-7:30pm. Gallery hours are Monday through Saturday, 10am-6pm and Sunday 11am-5pm. Flavors of Spain Cooking Technique Class at Williams-SonomaJoin the knowledgeable staff at Williams-Sonoma Sunday morning, July 31st, for a Culinary Technique class focusing on the flavors of Spain and classic recipes from the renowned chef José Andrés. Follow along as they demonstrate how to cook a traditional paella, the country’s classic rice dish that originated in the Valencia region. Their in-house chef will also share tips and tricks that will take your skills to the next level. After the class, stick around for samples and private shopping with your instructor and fellow classmates.

Organized by the Organic Market and Backyard Gardens, the event features fresh, local produce, prepared foods, and live music. The Market takes place weekly on Sundays, June through October, 11am-3pm, in front of the Organic Market at the corner of Fountain and Market Streets. Whether you are a local resident, or visiting the Cape, we welcome you to stop by. Vendors are happy to chat with you about their local offerings and the musicians are always a delight.

Free Lunch Program at the Mashpee Library

Free Lunch Program at Mashpee LibraryThe Mashpee Public Library is partnering with the Mashpee Public Schools to offer free lunch and activities for any child age 18 and under every Monday and Wednesday through July and August. The Summer Food Service Program is a safe, fun way for children to get nutritious meals when school is not in session.

On Mondays, join the Mashpee Library staff on the Village Green across the street for some fun and games at 11:00. Rain or shine, enjoy frisbees, hula hoops, jump ropes, wiffle ball, Chinese jump ropes, Twister and bubbles.  Free lunch for any child age 18 and under will be served from 11:45 to 12:30 (or until all lunches have been distributed).  Children are encouraged to select a free book from the library’s Youth Used Book Sale (located in the Children’s Room) to read after lunch. There will be books available for toddlers, preschoolers, school-age children and even teens!

On Wednesdays, the Library will show a full-length feature film in the Event room beginning at noon. Lunch will be served beforehand from 11:45 to 12:30. Children and families who do not wish to participate in the lunch program are still invited to attend the movie screening and all participants are welcome to bring their own lunch as well!
